A multimedia evening of dynamic storytelling that celebrates the Anchorage Centennial, showcasing the different cultures, dances, music and languages that call this Alaskan city their home. Along with other music, Christel Veraart’s ‘Arctic Aquarelles’ can be heard as backdrop to the fascinating stories of individuals that contributed to the cultural diversity that gave Anchorage the well deserved title of ‘Air Crossroads of the World’. The Wendy Williamson Auditorium in Anchorage will be hosting this event.
‘We Came to Stay: Anchorage Untold Stories’ is a project driven by the ‘Cultural Divers,’ a group of three women (Angelina Estrada-Burney, Vivian Melde, Shirley Mae Springer-Staten) with an interest in telling the stories of the people who arrived from outside of Alaska and made their homes in Anchorage during the city’s formative years.
The project consists of a performance at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium in Anchorage on Saturday April 11 (7.30 pm).
A community story share will take place on April 19 (3-5 pm) at the ZJ Loussac Library in Anchorage. For this occasion you are invited to bring a delicious dish that reflects your culture.
