Flying back from Alaska, I watched The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. This inspiring documentary follows the members of the hailed ensemble as they gather in locations across the world, exploring the ways art can both preserve traditions and shape cultural evolution. Inspired by the exchange of ideas and traditions along the historical Silk Road, cellist Yo-Yo Ma established Silk Road to explore how the arts can advance global understanding. In this documentary, he shares with us how the Silk Road Ensemble started out just as an idea, – a group of musicians getting together and see what might happen when strangers meet.
