From Indonesia to Arizona. Who would have thought there is a connection between the two! Recently moved to this state, I re-visited its fabulous musical instrument museum (MIM), located at the north-eastern side of Arizona’s metropolis of Phoenix, where more than seven thousand instruments from all over the world are on display. It was here that, just before my 12 months sojourn to Indonesia, I got my first inspiration for Lotus Dreams. This month, as part of MIM’s signature event series ‘”Tis the Season: Holidays at MIM”, the museum offers workshops in playing one of the many instruments that make up a Balinese gamelan orchestra.
