Artist Statement

Influenced variously by classical, modern, jazz and ambient styles, my music often reflects places I have been. I use instruments, voice, and sounds, to transform visual images into musical expression.

I find the core of my inspiration in the many cultures I have experienced while living and working in various parts of the world. Inspired by an eternal search for universality, by landscapes, I explore spaces void of time and idiom, where sound and images are inextricably linked. The quiet and contemplative hand me the perfect canvas to paint my music. Life is my soundboard and all that it presents to me, the tonal palette to choose from.

I have turned to the introspective world of composing after many years as a performing musician. In a process similar to painting, I have added composing music digitally, often combining sound with images and video.

From my digital and acoustic sound palette I choose the colors to paint my soundscapes. It is the urge to share secrets borne on melodies of destinations sacred to me*  which motivates me.

  • From Whispers by Christel Veraart

“Journeys, like artists, are born and not made. A thousand differing circumstances contribute to them, few of them willed or determined by the will – whatever we may think. They flower spontaneously out of the demands of our natures – and the best of them lead us not only outwards in space, but inwards as well. Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection….”
