Panis Angelicus
It was in 1872 that composer César Franck set the strophe Panis Angelicus (Latin for bread of angels), for tenor voice, harp, cello, and organ, and incorporated it into his Messe à trois voix. Sung and arranged by Christel Veraart.
The words to Panis Angelicus were written by Saint Thomas Aquinas, and were intended for the feast of Corpus Christi, a Christian liturgical solemnity that celebrates the Real Presence of the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus in the elements of the Eucharist.
