Announcing My New Album: Sacred Arias – Reimagining Classics: A Contemporary Journey
Release Date: October 29
I’m delighted to share that my new album, Sacred Arias – Reimagining Classics: A Contemporary Journey has been released.
This album has been a long time in the making—not just in terms of production, but as the culmination of a lifelong relationship with sacred music. Growing up in Europe, I was surrounded by centuries-old cathedrals, rich musical traditions, and the lingering echoes of choral works that seemed to be woven into the very stones of those ancient spaces.
Among many other places, I studied music in Maastricht, the beautiful Roman city in the south of the Netherlands that I called home for many years. During that time I sang countless concerts, weddings and funerals in the churches and basilicas in and around the city. These sacred occasions—deeply emotional and profoundly human—taught me the power of music to bring people together in moments of both joy and grief.
My earliest encounters with classical music took place in the nearby German St Mary Baslica Basilica in Kevelaer, where Mozart and Beethoven Masses were regularly performed. But it was Bach who truly captured my heart—and still does. While others might sing along to pop songs (a skill I never quite picked up), I’m more likely to hum Erbarme dich from the St. Matthew Passion or the Agnus Dei from the Mass in B Minor. I vividly recall practicing Haydn’s Fac me vere tecum flere as I walked alone through eucalyptus forests on the pilgrims’ path to Santiago de Compostela—just a tuning fork in hand, singing when no one else was around.
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to perform the arias from Sacred Arias in so many beautiful places — from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, England, and Spain, to the remote mission of San Borja, near Bahia de los Angeles, Mexico. And how could I forget the unforgettable performances in Angra dos Reis, Brazil? I’ve sung these pieces in everything from tiny chapels to grand, echoing churches. Most recently, I performed in Sedona — now my home — at the stunning chapel of Verde Valley International School, a space where music, nature, and spirit seem to meet in perfect harmony.
With Sacred Arias, I wanted to return to the world of sacred music, but through a contemporary lens. The album reimagines timeless works by Haydn, Händel, Bach, Mendelssohn, Caccini, Gounod, and Schubert—composers who have accompanied me throughout my life. Rather than performing their works exactly as they’ve always been heard, I created my own arrangements—carefully and respectfully—allowing these pieces to carry both the memory of tradition and the freshness of something new.
My voice serves as the thread that ties it all together, woven into soundscapes I crafted to evoke intimacy, grandeur, stillness, and transcendence. With Sacred Arias, I hope to create a space for listeners to pause, reflect, and connect—not only with the music but with memory, emotion, and something greater than ourselves.
Sacred Arias is available on all major streaming platforms.
